On March 28th the Tosetti Institute held its first HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) tournament. Fighters representing Iron Gate Swordfighting, the Meyer Freifechter Guild, the Sacramento Sword School, Davenriche European Martial Arts School, and the Tosetti Institute had the choice to compete in two different styles of fighting.
The first division of the day was Sidesword And…, the primary weapon was the Sidesword and the fighters were then given a choice of acceptable secondary weapons to use. The most popular secondary weapon was the buckler with the dagger coming in second. Seven fighters fought through 19 bouts to find the champion.
Next up was the Longsword event. This was by far the most popular division with 13 fighters competing in 37 bouts to find who would come out on top.
Throughout the day there were many great exhibitions of skill and quite a few incredibly close matches. There was a fairly even balance of those that were new to competing as well as some veterans. Everyone represented their art well and did themselves proud.
A huge thanks to everyone who competed, worked the event, or just came out to watch the fights.
1st Mike Furukawa (Tosetti Institute)

3rd Paul Abrams (Tosetti Institute)

Congratulations to all.
